The mainstream media is intent on making Tony Abbott prime minister because they think it will save them from irrelevance, says Denise Allen.
Over the past week we have seen unprecedented amounts of comment flood the Fifth Estate via our social media – Twitter, individual blogs, online news and opinion websites – in response to the Prime Ministers very powerful speech in Parliament regarding sexism in politics.
The Fifth Estate through the avenue of advanced technology has become an extremely influential form of media ― comments on Twitter reaching the Twittersphere at almost the speed of light; bloggers establishing their own online pathway to express their own personal opinion on many issues; news and opinion websites such as Independent Australia, New Matilda and The Conversation adding a completely new and “independent” dimension to news reporting, opinion and investigative journalism.
No longer does the general public have to rely on – or, more to the point, put up with – the blatantly biased and opinionated journalism found in our mainstream daily newspapers.
And thank God for that.
Where the majority of the Fifth Estate contributors applauded the PM’s speech, mainstream media blatantly refused to acknowledge the magnitude of the power behind the words she spoke.
Seasoned political journalists excused their bias by running for cover under the pretext of “context”.
“We are political journalists! We must report through the prism of political principles! We know best when reporting on politics!”
Well, no. Actually, they don’t.
The Press Gallery, who make up the majority of political journalists in mainstream media, have been caged within the walls of that political glasshouse for so long, they have fogged up the glass with their indignant, righteous, know-it-all huff and puff so much that they can no longer – or deliberately choose not to – see outside to what is important to the general public.
They have become so politically insular, biased and unashamedly opinionated, they no longer know the meaning of fair and balanced reporting.
But why are we not surprised?
For the past two years, ever since Julia Gillard was annointed the Prime Minister by the Independents, mainstream media has done everything in its power to condemn, ridicule, misconstrue and omit important facts from their reporting in order to assist the political power game-playing of Tony Abbott.
For example, there is the consistent and oft repeated lie that the Prime Minister is a “liar” regarding her comment about a carbon tax.
A lie in itself.
What the Prime Minister actually said was:
“There will be no carbon tax under a government I lead, but let me be clear, I will be putting a price on carbon and I will move to an ETS.”
When the PM made that statement she would not have imagined that the Government she would lead would be a minority one. One in which compromise would be the order of the day.
Tony Abbott had the opportunity to be Prime Minister. He would have done anything – even consider “selling his arse” – to get the top job.
But the Independents knew he would not be easy to work with – that they would not be able to trust him to negotiate and compromise.
Gillard ‘compromised’.
She did put a price on carbon ― just as she said she would.
That Abbott et al call it a tax is irrelevant.
It is a price on carbon; to be more precise, a price to be paid for carbon emissions for the biggers polluters ― initially set at $23 a tonne and then moving to a market based price.
But how many times have you seen mainstream media not only report the truth about the fullness of what the PM said, but back it up with the genuine and logical explanation of her compromise.
How many times do we see headlines praising the Government for fending off a recession in the wake of the GFC, or lauding the Government for having the lowest interest rates and unemployment for more than 20 years and an economy that is the envy of the world?
Almost never.
Now, I know the Labor Government have made some pretty silly gaffes and mistakes of their own. Doesn’t everybody?
These have been reported ad nauseum by journalists from the mainstream media every opportunity they get.
But the people of Australia have never had to opportunity to genuinely believe that Julia Gillard is actually a very good prime minister, because the mainstream media have forcefully – day in, day out – shoved down the electorates’ throats their own personal and biased opinions of the prime minister.
At the same time, mainstream media have allowed Abbott’s lies to manifest into a bizarre reality and have, like frenzied sycophantic trolls, perpetuated on a daily basis Abbott’s treacherous attempt to bring down the minority Government.
Mainstream media either make pathetic excuses for, or never report on, the lies, the gaffes of Abbott and his Shadow Ministers, the devious involvement of Liberal MP’s in the Slipper affair, or the facts and detail behind the HSU affair, as reported in Independent Australia by Peter Wicks. It is all swept under their dirty threadbare carpet, where they hope no-one will look.
But the members of the Fifth Estate have not only looked under that dirty threadbare carpet, they have found the grubby little secrets that mainstream media had hoped to keep concealed from the general public and have exposed them for all to see via The Fifth Estate.
So why do the journalists of the mainstream media so desperately want Abbott to be Prime Minister?
I can understand why journalists from the Murdoch stable want to elevate him to the top job. They are disciples of Rupert Murdoch, who greedily endeavors to shove his right wing agenda down the throats of everyone on the planet at every opportunity he gets. It’s all about greed.
Commercial television and radio shock jocks (need I say more), meanwhile, are just out to see who can be the most sensationalist and vile.
But even journalists from the Fairfax stable and the ABC, who once upon a time offered fair and balanced journalism, have jumped on the “bring down Gillard” bandwagon.
The subliminal way in which they promote Abbott over the PM is not easy for all to notice, but it’s there ― day in, day out.
If they just wanted to rid Australia of a minority Government and advance just one particular party to rule in its own right, one would expect they would write fair and balanced articles weighing up arguments and writing comparisons on the policies of both sides.
But they don’t do that.
They blatantly support Abbott no matter how sexist, idiotic, inept and policy-free he is.
Again, I ask why.
It can’t be because Abbott has superior policies ― no-one knows what they are.
It can’t be because he is a Statesman ― he isn’t. He is a fool and a mouse on the world stage.
It can’t be because he is an honest, positive, forward thinking politician, either. For he has used the lie of fear-mongering to frighten the electorate into believing the world would come to an end if a carbon price was introduced. Like he has used the lie of “illegal boat people” to petrify the electorate into believing we are being over run by Muslims
And, most often of all, he has used the viciousness of personal sexist verbal and visual assaults on the Prime Minister to disgracefully denigrate her in the eyes of the public.
The mainstream media must want to see and report on the financial damage winding back the carbon price and the MRRT will bring.
They must want to see and report on the regressive policies he will introduce to dilute women’s rights ― which he will do through his ideological religious fervour.
They must want to see and report on the furore that will occur between Australia and Indonesia when he “turns back the boats” without Indonesian approval.
Mainstream journalists see their jobs becoming extremely tenuous as the Fifth Estate becomes increasingly influential with ordinary every day people finally being able to have their say be it on Twitter, individual blogs or reading independent online news and opinion websites.
The only reason I can think of why mainstream media want so desperately for Abbott to be Prime Minister is so that they can voraciously report on the chaos and destruction he will bring down on the Australian people through their dying media in the hope that they can regain their influence over the minds of the people and try to reignite the people’s preference for mainstream media.
But that isn’t going to happen.
The genie is out of the bottle.
Mainstream journalists not only want fear, chaos and destruction to rule ― they need it to justify their support for Abbott.
It’s the only reason I can think of that explain why they act the way they do.

Completely agree. It seems they are addicted to dramatising politics. Making soap opera. As soon as the PM gets a boost in the polls, Marius Benson will whip out a story about Kevin Rudd coming back to invent some leadership challenge. Malcolm Turnbull’s ridiculous lies creating FUD about the NBN are never reported in the MSM, but get a big run on the 5th estate. A news limited journalist on “Insiders” practically admitted that the Margie Abbott coverage was a coordinated campaign with News. If the MSM journalists can’t present information fairly, then what are they for?
Denise, I think part of the reason is self interest. As high income earners, they know that their interests will be best served by the Liberals. It’s why the media supported the GST, which penalised low income earners (and pensioners), made life more difficult for almost all small businesses but gave a $3000 yearly tax cut to high incomes earners – like the political editors and senior journalists of the media. Add a sprinkle of misogyny and voilà – wall to wall anti Labor media. Of all the democracies in the world, we have the most biased media, and by a long way. And for one simple reason – concentration of ownership. That is the treat to our democracy.
Hi Denise.
Could you please provide a source for your expanded Gillard quote (“…but let me be clear, I will be putting a price on carbon and I will move to an ETS”).
Ideally an original transcript or video?
Good piece but I question the logic behind the claim the fourth estate present biassed coverage out of self interest. Surely a balanced approach would be a better adverisement for their wares. I suggest the reason is more simple. They’re stupid and lazy. As suggested in the article the information is out here in the blogosphere but they never report it. That would be too complex a story for their editors to utilise I suppose. Only when they change this absurd bias will they’re growing irrelevance be slowed. It’s a shame the ABC has gone the same way but again I put it down to stupid people. Also lack of resources to employ someone with enough intelligence to make rational judgements about what is news and what’s propaganda.
Davek. I think that Denise makes a better case for polarised mendacity (based on the selection bias towards the middle-aged-men-minded-establishment, like Michelle Gratton & Miranda Devine (!)) than on your squeal of universal stupidity. The defining characteristic of a conservative mindset is defence of privilege, why are we surprised that it’s carefully selected mouthpieces are calling only one side? The only thing that has changed is the penetration of the fifth estate…and even that had a precedent in the Hogarthian handbills and scandal sheets that evolved into the 4th estate back in C18.
Yes, I too noticed the ABC joining the rat pack in the manner they were doing before. Using taxpayer money to push for the side of politics which is committed to limiting its role. Go figure. Time to separate the appointment of people to the ABC from influence from the politicians of any side.
I think the MSM journos – Fairfax, ABC, let’s not include the Dial-M-for-Murdoch lot – have, in the main, not forgiven Julia for toppling Rudd overnight without their permission. They were left out of the loop and were not the participants in politics that they wish to be and assume themselves to be. They had stoked the fires for long enough, with unceasing speculative articles about Rudd’s supposedly fatal poll results, but when it happened they decided it was not legitimate. Since then, Abbott has been Rudd’s proxy.
RichardK, I think this does it:
“”I don’t rule out the possibility of legislating a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, a market-based mechanism,” she said of the next parliament. “I rule out a carbon tax.”

There has been no shortage of stacking through the whole sphere. Also i’ve noticed it’s monarchist out, republican in, labour out, liberal in. Full steam for privatisation and free market. etc. Australian’s lives are well planned. The care of the lower is a good punch in the head and advantage for more of that and welfare for above. The real estate and rental market and other monopolies are protected. I see a similar agenda here on IA with republican and under other veins. I would like to discern between Australian values of decency and fairness, republic and monarchist. All I see is American and a desperate globalisation rush to install that under any means or guise. The health and legal system and corporate rule. It is dangerous and people should be very careful what barrow they push and know how other forces let them to a point and take over with the momentum. Too many have been toilet trained and typecast on Murdochracy and sheep food from above to be made to not be or feel normal if they don’t go along with projected peerage and the psychologies of greeds power. which is military grade today and interconnected and controlled in a high art.The people perform like an orchestra to a conductor.
We are still at the stage because of corporate control, powers weight and opportunism and greed in it’s momentum from the boom that caution is needed in decision. I will give a republic a good go or not and monarchist the same to balance points for true independance, not powers heights ,urgings , conniving’s, brutalities or cunning. I want an independent Australia too but one that can be controlled by sanity not corporate. That’s when i’m not wishing the same as my family on all.
Isn’t the carbon tax a control of earth resources for a power manipulation, to punish, train and shape with? In all reality, how can Australia make any difference? Is it more likely an agenda from global sources, who are also in a state of panic and desperation because the 5th estate has a mind? The tactic there is to go on as if they are deaf, the only fifth estate that lives is theirs, facebook, youtube, twitter, i-phone etc and the trails of corporate intelligence. The list of matters of the Earth and nature not attended are too long that can and should be, aren’t . –AND terrifying.
And the old routines are past the use by date. Political distractions to pass punches in the head for single mothers with rents and childcare and living costs actually already killing people and relationships and futures. The futures of all because of the mis sway of greed and comforts momentum from a boom. There is no life, people are just hanging on.
That momentum IS where overindulgence on the people by health and legal live. The worst of the US health system. The proof is riddled through history. I’ve confronted it often and long and most if not 99% can’t see what i’m doing or why. Or what I cop in the dark. Nothing wrong with Americans, weellll, you know. It’s there system heights. There system was based on Doctor and lawyer and corporate freedom. The troubles attributed to the monarchy were largely from their interferences with the system and people.
Some of it right and no shortage of rat cunning.
Bernie Banton is the quint essential Australian old school gentleman that every one knows. Two things stand out with me with Tony. His action and inaction with the Australia day matter of the horrifying uprising of the natives and Bernie. It’s like no one else exists. He retreats to power behind a door as if he is that power. Talk about missed opportunities to talk to Bernie even if only to camouflauge himself with a real Australian, wipe a bit on for advantage. The aspiring prime minister couldn’t find any words for first people on that day, the man in the room.
I get terrified of misjudging people and I mix with people that others won’t. I have done it often, like all, but Tony has a dark horse air to me that I can’t get past. I don’t barrack Lib or labour, I see and know other hands manipulating both and both doing the same work in many matters under their different hats for heights advantage against peace ,fair go, stability, spare time, lesuire and humanity in the community under all manner of excuse and cunning and floor show.
Some push so hard for Tony when all evidence says uh- oh in the gut. Which may be wrong to hold of him but what do some know and mainstream media that most don’t of him? Please share.
It doesn’t pass me either that labour does the Liberals work for them quite often and in deception to their roots in a grand stage play.
My vision embedded of Tony is his favourite pose, the smug have a go threatening smirk like he’s been attacked and look back from the held door he soon disappears behind in psychopathic superiority. Like a misfit lost for words or impenetrable to others grief and the human situation.
WHAT,is that all knowing and threatening superiority, so often pulled to his great disadvantage. Is it him or greater powers exposing and manipulation of him to shape for their own ends like mainstream media toys like a cat with peoples futures.
Please please explain. I would love to feel bothered to participate in voting and pretend i’m an Australian.
Just a small quibble, but what the PM actually said about the Carbon Tax was a bit different from what you have quoted:
“There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead, what we will do is we will tackle the challenge of climate change. We’ve invested record amounts in solar and renewable technologies. Now I want to build the tranmission lines that will bring that clean green energy into the national electricity grid. I also want to make sure we have no more dirty coal fired power stations, I want to make sure we’re driving greener cars and working from greener buildings, I will be delivering those things, and leading our national debate to reach a consensus about putting a cap on carbon pollution.” (Channel 10 News, 16 August 2010, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-HP00lxC30)
She also said “I don’t rule out the possibility of legislating a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, a market-based mechanism … I rule out a carbon tax” in an interview with The Australian on the day immediately before the election (Julia Gillard’s carbon price promise, 20 August 2010, http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/julia-gillards-carbon-price-promise/story-fn59niix-1225907522983).
Taken together, these two statements convey the same meaning as the quote that you have given. But unless you have a different source for your quote, I’m not sure that it is actually correct.
Macondo has an important point. While agreeing with the bulk of Denise’s article, I think the Fairfax position is ambiguous. No doubt about Murdoch media: the paymaster speaks in favour of Abbott and his Australian employees all become propagandists for his view. The senior Fairfax journalists, on the other hand, have been campaigning for Rudd to replace Gillard. Michelle Grattan has been on this tack for the past year, as was Shaun Carney until his departure, both extremely peeved (as Macondo notes) about missing the transition. I daresay at the end of the day this probably amounts to a ‘subliminal’ promotion of Abbott.
Steven Graham’s remarks I see as this. The position at that time was in the air and still is on which way to move. The prime minister had and gave a stand on the matter at that time to the people and knowingly doing it with the political opportunist sledging’s to come to her known disadvantage. I find no problem with that or the guts to her detriment to position on the matter and reflect the agenda of change that a majority want concerning life on earth. The position is not fixed. It changes with education and national capability in debate.
The actual quote “There will be no carbon tax under the Government I lead, but let me be clear, I will be putting a price on carbon and I will move to an ETS” has been reported and quoted as is in a major daily newspaper.
However, I will be totally honest and say it is now very difficult to find. If one googles the PM’s carbon tax quote one unfortunately gets a You Tube clip edited by the Liberal Party (conveniently leaving out the part where she continues talking about climate change policy) and the majority of sites relating to this are conservative blogs.
However as others have stated…the PM did clearly state there would be a carbon price.
Even the Australian printed the fact.

This is where the MSM is at
http://www.news.com.au/national/julia-gillard-spread-eagled-as-she-fell-after-losing-her-shoe-on-a-visit-to-new-delhi-in-india/story-fndo4eg9-1226497905553
Thank you Denise for finally revealing what Julia Gillard actually did say about a Carbon Price which I didn’t know which is an example of the MSM perverting language and creating a false impression.
Fairfax is actually worse than News Ltd because we have always known the beast that was News. Fairfax is watering down it’s credibility day by day by getting into the gutter with News.
The problem for them is that News Ltd has it’s rusted on fans and will keep them. They wont go to Fairfax because they still believe, increduously that Fairfax is full of lefties. However Fairfax is losing it’s traditional supporters.
As for the Canberra lot- who on earth do they think they are preaching to ?. The great mass of the general public couldn’t give a damn about them no matter how many times pompous identities like Laurie Oakes as some sort of seer.
Reality is that Julia Gillard’s government ,for good or bad, has achieved a lot despite the MSM’s hysteria over the minority government which is the norm in Europe.

I accept the conservative mindset is defence of privilege through opposition to all change. I realise journalists who echo such sentiments will be favoured over others. My gripe is that by doing so they let down the nation and ultimately the planet. I am therefor not surprised by the at times visceral bias demonstrated by the press gallery. The fact they seem to hunt in packs slavishly adopting the accepted wisdom of the day I think supports my thesis that they are, with a few exceptions, a bit dim. I’m sorry if I come across as shrill but I’m tired of people with a megaphone telling me what this other person meant when they said what they said. Whether it be Gillard or Assange it seems to me the press completely misses the boat that’s securely anchored in the cloud all the time. I was saddened at the lack of support Gillard got from female members of the press following her tirade. Maybe they know better than to say something that puts them out of step with their fellows. I understood the thrust of the article above was that journalists muddy the waters in order to protect their position as beacons of clarity in an otherwise obscure world. I merely suggested, foolishly no doubt, that the wit to orchestrate such an endeavour was lacking. It may well be that the bias we all perceive is unconscious but this again supports my propoposition in so far as demonstrating a lack of introspection. This is not to say that I am at all pure in this regard. I am however in total agreement with you regarding the information revolution and the opportunities this presents the fifth estate.
The evidence is in : nearly 2 million viewers on You Tube of Julia Gillard’s speech. That’s just one poster with around another half million watching other poster’s, re-post of the video.
It doesn’t matter if these viewers are mainly abroad as the video got tons of airplay locally and over-whelmingly on social media people were supportive.
Whether she meant it or not Julia Gillard totally side-lined Peter Slipper’s ‘tweets’ and yet the Canberra media pack to their utter disgrace bought the Opposition line, lock stock and barrel and like a conga line of dimwits who do not know their ar*e from their elbows, outrageously demanded Slipper’s resignation when the whole matter is still a case before the courts.
Not only where their ethics shown to be appalling, their attempts to dictate to their dwindling readers what they should think is an abomination. Pension the lot of I say. What is the point of them? The readership would be minimal.
“MSM so politically insular, biased & unashamedly opinionated no longer know the meaning of fair & balanced reporting” http://t.co/IYYnHw64

Oscar Jones, I was lured on to youtube with a slur and a couple of hundred thousand comments appeared within hours. All the wording of the comments could’ve been applied to any vid on the tube and totally out of character for the vid to get many hits. Gilliard’s may be valid with the news made of it. It’s a good thing prior to a visit to India but when single mothers heads are being kicked here in the climate they already live in and suffer and Newman’s movements in Queensland, I see the irony and the distraction. I had similar interferences and hackings on Facebook while blogging on an international site. That included veiled death threats and psychologies from the states with a lot of orchestration of timing to assaults on me by police, security and politics . Mainly from Texas and Florida. After pointing out the matter and links to a media outlet of the politics and goings on in Australia and to try and verify the assaults on me, The site was removed from the web.
Comments at the push of a button.
With much of politics, the movements are layered. There’s often for or five layers and angles to the matter. And reasons. A lot of good, and cunning. It’s a big nervous system. The Hollywood, political and media sites are all connected to make white noise, distraction and clutter on call. What is termed the “Right” side of politics lives here and moves.Lots of good, lots of cunning and bad. The assaults on me have have been layered. Gillard may be ok, I like the woman as a person but she won’t know what’s going on around her or perhaps care other than her own standing as most. She is nothing in the scheme of things. The right creeps and often controls and works through both sides of politics. This is America.
Obama is a very fine man, I love the guy, but the right still creeps and flows through him too, a lot less than Romney it appears. I’ll say that again,it appears. Obama is more for the whole. Everyone. But he has a fight with powers nervous system and assaults and fiddlings with him and office and I can’t see any US president being hurt that other countries are follwing in their footprints and system when they have the upper hand in that commercially and power wise.
The Huffington post put an article and spread and maps out on the US security, it’s backbone, bases locations and interconnections. It is interesting to view and read but left out a lot of how the right works, how and where.I couldn’t find it to post.
A big trick that has always been with us is to tie political movements to matters of National Security by any means which makes them untouchable by people’s representation and media and instigates secret and ruthless hell on anyone trying to confront it including death. When you do, they crap.
The “best” of the right’s movements attaches to international defence. Sabre rattling, all of a sudden fear is over the airwaves. As the public, as security, many don’t know or see the full story and act from the indignation and duty and triggering’s of their perspective from their standing on you and will judge you harshly like heroes “saving” their nations. When they too face hell of life and relatives and children dying on lounge chairs at home and losing houses like the States when the right runs full course and their security in life fails.
The right loves the wars. The fear, the power , the cash coffers the elite structure of orders and bullying and political excuse at “threat of death” and hype.
Conflicts are inevitable, I’ll still call the right out on the movements. Expose the trick.
Many times I’ve jumped on the net to interrupt a Right movement or strategy of the political, embedding, health system or corporate over indulgence on the people or tried to address the matter of my father with snippets and instantly international fear mongering starts. The war drums. Attached to a Right movement. They make you pay. They hate me and they instigate hate.
Romney’s rattling on about China, Obama pointed out matters of Romney with that. Here’s some more, The US knowingly sold thousand’s of acres of computer gear with a mass myriad of technical information still on it to China well more than a decade ago. Romney’s corporates- God knows what they have given or manipulated with China. How better for Romney’s to cash in on China’s cheap labour and producing’s? China doesn’t worry me.
You get the picture?
I still see matters of mainstream being pushed here on IA without knowledge or perspective of what it totally involves. Sometimes it looks like IA is pushing the Right’s agenda indulging in the bashing and ridicule of the monarchs for the sheep’s benefit.
A walk in others shoes is often good. Education.
My father’s case and matter had a lot of watchers. When he died, there was a lot of noise, and suppressed by media. Through the heights of the medical and legal system and politics, and the Soldiers networks, private, family, the RSL,-corrupt- and organisations like the UDSA, United disabled soldiers association the matter buzzed and murmured nationally. It is recorded.
Fraser tried to get Don Chip to take the hot seat of the minister for Repatriation, the soldiers department, to take the flak of repercussions and public placation of the bastards being kept honest. The seat was given to the current Qld premiers Father who’s movements I’m watching and all the hair is standing up on my back.
I blew the whistle of the Newman association on a site of one of this sites occasional participants for a couple of reasons.
Public education and awareness. Newman’s ties and family and political history and to events. And to free him from chains of what is termed the Right to act for whole if he is anything above an idiot and true Australian with half a brain at least. His life and tierage points to other.
The devil is in the fact that high authority in US and OZ security and government know of these matters of his family ties to past and my war on the matter underground with them and the “Right” spanning back to 1990.
My stand on the matter was firmed when the hole was drilled in my water connection. Bells started to ring that the information I sent to government may have had a very high chance of being misused as I’ve mentioned on other pages here. And that it gave the right, that they took the opportunity to, indulge in thuggery and conniving and with this matter into the safety zone for them of National security.
Which means steam rolling , making movements and stacking the system.
Our system has no monarchical mechanisms of defence for the people and vulnerable in our Quasi state of Republicanism to defend against such attacks. Nor has it or will it in the full blown being pushed by so many and naively and innocently – for some. It is tuned in the other direction for opportunism. It creeps in and pounces or just suddenly appears. And the majority public has no defence against the astute psychologies applied to pull it off.
This thing does not sleep. It has stacked the system around itself.
I watch with interest, the hide and confidence of the right installing Newman. Powers dug a very big hole for all to have to climb out of under Howard.
Watching with interest may not and won’t be enough. To wait and see what happens as to how our system is stacked cruelly and out of balance for heights and rights advantage. It will buy the heights and make their indulgence in it’s joy very comfortable.
Until it overstuffs or becomes complacent which can take decades of hell on the people.
Thank you Denise for articulating what readers of the MSM have been feeling for some time. That the old saying: “is it true or did you read it in the Telegraph” now largely extends to the other mainstream publications as well. The fact that Gena Reinhardt, someone who had done nothing but inherit immense wealth, could attempt to dictate her terms to Fairfax and thereby influence the national debate clearly shows the shortcomings of the MSM. The term ‘He who pays the piper, calls the tune” is only too obvious in reporting these days. Many MSM journalists report the way they think Rupert would like to hear or see it. And even those who don’t work at ‘News Limited’ (where real news is extremely Limited), even those journos report with the thought in the back of their mind that one day they may be looking for a job with one of Rupert’s organizations. They may not even realize it but it’s there. That lean to the right is even within the ABC just so they can’t ever be accused of a bias to the left. There are a few standouts such as a Mike Carlton, David Mahr and others who buck that trend but they are few and far between unfortunately. Too few.
Denise this is a very interesting article, I have lost faith in the MSM and the abbott broadcasting corporation because of the bias and bullshit they serve up every day.
I do note not a word on the abc today about Barbara Ramjam instigating legal action against Kroger and the australian, perhaps because they are hoping to keep this well and truly buried to protect abbott from the stinking publicity that this will involve.
