Julian Assange is in very real danger of assassination, says Bob Ellis.
It is now the Swedes’ plan, and their ally America’s plan, for a ‘Lee Harvey Oswald moment’ when, emerging handcuffed from the embassy gates, Assange will be shot from a high window across the street in an ‘incident’ Scotland Yard will profoundly regret — and his funeral will be watched by half a billion viewers across the world and the assassin will get away.
This is their plan now. Their previous plan was not to try him for rape in Sweden – since his accusers were plainly right-wing conspirators who publicly kissed and hugged him for days and days after the supposed offence – but to beat him to death in gaol in an ‘incident’ the authorities would profoundly regret.
This was always their plan. This is why they never charged him with anything — wanting only to ‘question’ him in Sweden. Though they could have questioned him in London, he had to be in Sweden. There can be no other reason for this, as any fan of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will tell you, but to kill him there.
It is not far-fetched or paranoid to say this. Four American presidential candidates have called for his death, two by assassination. His informant, Bradley Manning, is undergoing torture and facing execution. Drone missiles take out, once a month, America’s political opponents without an arrest, or a lawyer, or a period of detention, or a day in court — just a sudden explosion in the house that they – and their children, sometimes – live in. Assassination is American foreign policy now — and an assassinated Assange is on their menu.
How are we to save him?
Well, we could ask the Swedes to interview him in the embassy, and find him, as they did before, a person of no interest. Or we could ask the British to send him home. Once here, he could be questioned on what happened, and the accusers flown out to be questioned too. If they have a case, he can be tried by Skype from Sweden and, if found guilty, if a fair trial is possible after the publicity, gaoled here.
And his life preserved.
It is not too large a thing to call him our Dreyfus. For Dreyfus too was accused of giving information to the enemy, amid newspaper headlines that divided the nation, and families with it, for decades. Dreyfus was found to be guiltless of any breach of the law in any jurisdiction.
It is a pity that the now all-too-common alliance of American hubris, Fox News hysteria and the far right wing has brought this world hero – the truthful, stern, impelled auteur of the Arab Spring – to this pass with the craven assistance of Australian inertia, Swedish greed and mendacious American vengefulness.
Or perhaps you disagree.

No I don’t think it’s far-fetched or paranoid either. What is also truly offensive, is the stony-faced prepared spiel we’re receiving from government, in response to any questions on the matter. Scott Ludlum is the only one who has spoken out about it. He has also written a letter to the embassy of Ecuador in the UK, backing Julian Assange’s asylum claim. http://www.scribd.com/AssocOfTruthMedia/d/97974296-Australian-Senator-Scott-Ludlam-Letter-to-Ecuador-Embassy-RE-Julian-Assange-Extradition
What a pity no other Australian politician seems to have the backbone to stand up to the world bully, to protect one of our own citizen’s rights.

David Hicks would still be in Guantánamo if public opinion hadn’t turned in his favour and forced Howard to act. Julia (all-the-way-with-the-USA) Gillard won’t lift a finger on his behalf unless she thinks she’ll sink even lower in the polls if she doesn’t. From the comments I’ve read on various articles, a lot of people think Julian Assange is guilty of raping two Swedish women and running away from his just punishment. Public opinion is far from causing Julia a re-think. It’s looking pretty grim for Julian.
Assange lst place of refuge should have been Australia not Ecuador, that it wasn’t is a disappointment but that the one sided extradition agreement with Australia would have surely prevented him walking into the Australian Embassy.
The US double standards in whisking its citizens out of whichever country they commit serious criminal offenses and back to the safety in the US, even mass murderers a la Ray Davis in Pakistan or Robert Bales in Afghanistan.
The 23 CIA operatives found guilty in an Italian Court have still not been extradited to Italy and Malaysia Human rights Court is still waiting for the extradition of Bush to face charges.
Even the British are now resisting US extradition requests a la Richard O’ Dwyer for copyright infringement and sees the US position as an assault on their civil liberties.
The US would not apply for extradition of Assange from the UK for it would pi** off too many and the British would not want to face the backlash.
I still fail to understand even if Australia has an extradition treaty with US do they have one with the Swedes and why Australia should be so willing to hand Assange over to them on a trump up charge when the sex was so obviously consensual and the ‘rape’ element is a mere technicality.
Please don’t feed Julian Assange’s rampant narcissism any further.
He must be loving this, the nasty little tyke from Melbourne using creepy social engineering techniques to hack into mundane telecommunications networks getting to race into an embassy and claim asylum.

Whether we want to or not, what Wikileaks did went far beyond the call of duty to expose the summarily executions of unarmed civilians by the US Government.
The US without any fear of recrimination also incarcerated the entire town of Fallujah and its civilians after the killing of 5 American contractors some 10miles from Fallujah. Then there was Abu Graib etc. etc.
It seems grossly duplicitous that while none of the architects of the illegal Iraq war. Neither little Johnny Howard, Blair, Bush and their cohorts have ever been held accountable for their complicity in the death and mutilation of millions of unarmed civilians.
However, the ‘narcissistic creep’ is being run to ground, hounded to death for his little peccadilloes with two Swedish women who have had a change of heart from ‘consensual sex’ to ‘rape’ after the act and Australia does little to help him.
I too think Assange is very much in peril and can hope for little help from Canberra. Our Foreign minister’s reassurances on Insiders today were decidedly ingenuous and unconvincing and all other commentators refuse to acknowledge Assange’s contribution to the dmocratic process and seem to wish him nothing but ill.
Rather him than me!

I would say Assange has ‘huevos’ the size of cricket ball to have taken on the good ole USofA and their hypocrisy, howeve4r it’s those ‘huevos’ that landed him in is present predicament and his unfortunate dalliance with the two Swedish virgins.
One would not wish Assange misfortune on a mongrel dog. Perhaps he could settle down in the Embassy for the coming Years or they can whisk him off to Ecuador.
Witnessed Craig Thomson standing up and weathering years of Media scrutiny, the suspicion surrounding the HSU fiasco and Abbott’s daily barrage. Now watching the Assange debacle as it spirals out of control, I must admit to a new found admiration of the Australian male psyche, never thought they had it in them. Yes rather him than Me.

Marilyn, if you have any suggestions they would be more than welcome. My needs are simple, a basic job of some description and an apartment.
Preferably somewhere not surrounded by amateur snoops – but it might still be too early to expect that.
Here is the early Assange in action
“Mendax decided he would social engineer a password out of one of
Minerva’s users. He had downloaded a partial list of Minerva users
another PI hacker had generously posted for those talented enough to
make use of it. This list was maybe two years old, and incomplete, but
it contained 30-odd pages of Minerva account usernames, company names,
addresses, contact names and telephone and fax numbers. Some of them
would probably still be valid.
….
Mendax reached one of the contact names for a company in Perth. Valid
number, valid company, valid contact name. He cleared his throat to
deepen his voice even further and began.
‘This is John Keller, an operator from OTC Minerva in Sydney. One of
our D090 hard drives has crashed. We’ve pulled across the data on the
back-up tape and we believe we have all your correct information. But
some of it might have been corrupted in the accident and we would just
like to confirm your details. Also the back-up tape is two days old,
so we want to check your information is up to date so your service is
not interrupted. Let me just dig out your details …’ Mendax shuffled
some papers around on the table top.
‘Oh, dear. Yes. Let’s check it,’ the worried manager responded.
Mendax started reading all the information on the Minerva list
obtained from Pacific Island, except for one thing. He changed the fax
number slightly. It worked. The manager jumped right in.
‘Oh, no. That’s wrong. Our fax number is definitely wrong,’ he said
and proceeded to give the correct number.
Mendax tried to sound concerned. ‘Hmm,’ he told the manager. ‘We may
have bigger problems than we anticipated. Hmm.’ He gave another
pregnant pause. Working up the courage to ask the Big Question.
It was hard to know who was sweating more, the fretting Perth manager,
tormented by the idea of loud staff complaints from all over the
company because the Minerva account was faulty, or the gangly kid
trying his hand at social engineering for the first time.
‘Well,’ Mendax began, trying to keep the sound of authority in his
voice. ‘Let’s see. We have your account number, but we had better
check your password … what was it?’ An arrow shot from the bow.
It hit the target. ‘Yes, it’s L-U-R-C-H–full stop.’
Lurch? Uhuh. An Addams Family fan.
‘Can you make sure everything is working? We don’t want our service
interrupted.’ The Perth manager sounded quite anxious.
Mendax tapped away on the keyboard randomly and then paused. ‘Well, it
looks like everything is working just fine now,’ he quickly reassured
him. Just fine.
‘Oh, that’s a relief!’ the Perth manager exclaimed. ‘Thank you for
that. Thank you. I just can’t thank you enough for calling us!’ More
gratitude.
Mendax had to extract himself. This was getting embarrassing.
‘Yes, well I’d better go now. More customers to call.’ That should
work. The Perth manager wanted a contact telephone number, as
expected, if something went wrong–so Mendax gave him the one which
was permanently busy.
‘Thank you again for your courteous service!’ Uhuh. Anytime.
Mendax hung up and tried the toll-free Minerva number. The password
worked. He couldn’t believe how easy it was to get in.
He had a quick look around, following the pattern of most hackers
breaking into a new machine. First thing to do was to check the
electronic mail of the ‘borrowed’ account. Email often contains
valuable information.”
An emotionally cold, calculating, exploitative teenage sociopath grew into an emotionally cold, calculating, exploitative adult sociopath.
Albeit a sociopath who didn’t commit rape. I wouldn’t have put it past Assange and Ms A to have conspired to try and manoeuvre Ms W into making a very weak rape complaint. All so he could bask in public in his very own pseudo-persecution
Wow Grey so what? Is it about you and your pathetic whiney little life.
Just letting you know I am more than happy to relocate. I think my list of conditions are not unreasonable.
Let’s hope you can be speedily re-located Grey so you can practice your psychiatry in peace.
Gitmo provides accommodation and meals although I doubt an occupation but you need no qualifications to go there.

It will probably never happen, but how marvelous if Julian Assange could somehow be airlifted off the roof of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, in a diplomatically protected ECUADORIAN helicopter, and flown to a secret destination in England. Thereafter to board a long distance Lear Jet for a safe haven in South America. Oh what a lovely one up finger for the hypocritical Royal British Establishment to swallow. If it does happen, let me be present in either 10 Downing Street or Buckingham Palace when the news is released! It would make, not just my day but my decade!!!!! With apologies to all those people who provided cash for his bond.
