A fine article Tess.
Took time to got back and read your previous articles, just to refresh my memory of "Hoddle Street"
Seven dead, ninteen injured.
"this guy deserved the sentence they used to issue "for the term of his natural life"

Thanks for an informative, moving article, and a timely reminder of mans inhumanity to man.

Good stuff Tess, well done

Dear ERICH, thanks so much for your clarification - I appreciate that you've taken the trouble to state your opinion.

I have no wish to feed Knight's giant ego but we cannot allow him or anyone else in his position to suppress legitimate public debate.

Without question I am conscious of the impact upon victims of media reference to tragedies.

I have been assisting now adult victims of child sex abuse, mostly by clergy - to write down their stories.

Some reports have been so brutally graphic and for some people it can be a cathartic experience and have some therapeutic merit.

We sometimes differ in how we live with tragedy in our lives and it is important to respect and acknowledge that difference.

I do appreciate and thank you for your view EricH and for contributing to this discourse.

I read these type of articles in a range of publications from the UK Daily Mail to the Oz Daily Telegraph and they usual rant and rave about prisoners receiving "luxuries" in prison and often demand, as do the readers, that they should be reduced to bread and water.

Everyone is entitled to their view and beliefs and mine is that whatever keeps a prisoner under control and a prison trouble free is the most practical solution and it would seem those who run prisons obviously think likewise.

I don't understand the silent moralizing here.
Obviously he is a completely ghastly character and most likely a psychopath and is best kept locked up but even though he has caused terrible lasting harm to any number of people, having a PlayStation or book to read is entirely incidental and changes not a thing for anyone, except those who must work with this nutter.

These passages are gratuitous :
"We know that those who are addicted to pornography and who cannot function sexually without it, become inured after a time and require more extreme pornography to get arousal; and that inevitably means viewing more violence and violation ― often using non-consenters.
Real-life/death scenes from mutilations, rapes, necrophilia ‒ often involving babies and children and sometimes culled from war zones ‒ are now being edited and incorporated into pornographic videos and video games.".
Unless you have evidence that this applies in this case.

I don't see the point of an article that moralizes about some person's hideous deeds and which in the same breathe mentions victims who have suffered badly when an article like this, if read by the victim could breathe new life into the horror they suffered.

Lock him up, give him enough to keep him calm and let him be forgotten rather than give him the oxygen of publicity which the author claims he wants and then actually goes and does just that.

That's my view.

Bruce,
I do think the serious issues are being discussed when a serious article is published.
This article is no different than tge cartoons published in the papers. Not to be taken serious so I assume none serious comments are welcomed.
Well at least I hope their comments are mot serious, hint. hint, Ron, Ian and Mouserat.

I do wonder if Ford Australia was not part of a multinational corporation but was independantly owned perhaps it would have had more export sucess. I can imagine Ford Australia would have been told what they were allowed to manufacture and export so as not to compete with the companies foreign operations.
What the local car industry needs to do is to develop a unique car that is different in design to what others are offering and to present it to the worldwide consumers. There is always a market for something different even if the cost is higher. Unfortunatly this is unlikely to happen while the local industry is owned by overseas interests.
One of the problems with both the Falcon and Commodore is that they have been around for so long that they have become stale. People like to change their purchases and that is why there is such a big variety of cars avaiable.
It is a sad reminder that Australia no longer is interested in being a manufacturing nation.
There has never been a powerful nation that does not have a strong manufacturing industry and we should remember that.

I guess you didn't notice her tell another person that reducing single parents and their kids to poverty was designed that way because everyone knows that kids are better off if their parents are working.

How that translates beats me because if they can't get jobs that pay enough to survive because they have young kids how does punishing the kids help them?

JoanG, she is not the heroine you make her out to be. She is really quite cruel and pandering to the far right ratbags in the tea party ACL and the dinosaurs like Joe De Bruyn is ridiculous and hypocritical in the extreme.

Whether you like the message or not Joan Gillard is tormenting and torturing people who have fled torture, she is persecuting single parents and enshrining bigotry even further while trashing the constitution and rule of law in the process.

Fair dinkum, take off the blinkers.

Even while she was choking up in Parliament after meeting a brilliant, high functioning and well off child with Down's Syndrome she was jailing disabled children for daring to seek refugee status wit their parents.

Joan, equality means for everyone, not just the few Gillard chooses to endow, she is not a dictator in some tin pot nowhere.

Do you know Joan that we are even denying refugee status to Syrians now?

Let it go Bruce. People have to laugh along the way, so it may as well be at something we can at least laugh at here, as it is not allowed in the corporate world that saturates us, and soon will dominate us.
Yes, there is bigger more distressing things to note and discuss, but if we are all work and no play, we may as well give up with everything, as LNP and their minions will have our lives totally all work (for someone else’s profit) and with no gain at all, or play in any way, and if we do, they will take it from us via their legalised Robbers, the Banks.
So relax, have a laugh at the expense of someone who really doesn’t care if you’re dead. Because I am sure he’s bothered by the fact he knows we wish him dead, and there is 7 Billion of us. Otherwise we’d be dead now.
