John Skene bio

John Skene was born and bred in Sydney and did his apprenticeship at Garden Island Navel Dockyard, where he worked for 17 years.

John became heavily involved in trade union matters at the dockyard, and also took on a second job as a casual bar attendant.

He left the Dockyard in 1975 and started working in the hospitality industry after he was offered a permanent bar attendant job. John worked in the hospitality industry for 25 years, in various clubs in the Western Suburbs of Sydney and the Central Coast of NSW.

For the last 5 years of John’s working life, he worked as a Hospitality Trainer in various training colleges around the Central Coast and Newcastle.

John is now retired and living with his wife of 25 years in a small town near Wagga Wagga in the Riverina area.
