Windsor knew what to expect, it says a lot for his courage that he backed Gillard (ditto Oakshott).
It might also say something about how truly appalling Abbott actually is, and literally impossible to work with.
This afternoon in QT Abbott was EVICTED from the HOR’s by the Dep Speaker, a woman. Since the day Anna Burke deputised full time for Speaker Slipper, Abbott, Pyne, Hockey, Morrison, Dutton, plus some of the equally ignorant bully boys on the back benches have attempted to disrupt QT with malicious points of order. They have continually defied the Dep Speaker, on more than one time almost reducing her to tears of anger and frustration.
Today Dep Speaker Burke removed Abbott, Pyne, Hockey and Dutton from the House for 1 hour, in Abbotts case only the 3rd Leader of an Opposition to have such an order imposed.
Much has been written and said about Abbott and Pyne in particular and their almost total apparent disrespect for women in general and Labor women MP’s in particular. I say apparent because to some it is of no consequence, fair game, to others its just a bit of good chaps fun but I believe for the majority of Australians it is totally and utterly unacceptable.
Abbott declares he likes women and uses his wife and two daughters as examples. Well if those 3 are not recipients of his liking, his marriage is in deep trouble. Rumours have it, that is the case already, I can’t comment, perhaps his Chief of Staff Ms Credlin would know more?
I have been vigorous in my condemnation of the Deputy Speakers inability to control the raucous rude objectionable behaviour of the Opposition during QT, behaviour I believe orchestrated by the Mgr of Opposition Business Pyne and condoned by his Leader.
I had written to Ms Burke requesting she take a harder line and use the rules of the House more effectively.
Finally this afternoon the bomb exploded and Abbott was the recipient of a direct hit as Ms Burke said enough is enough and ordered Abbott out for an hour joining 3 of his co bullies Pyne, Hockey and Dutton. In Abbott’s case a long overdue expulsion and completely justified.
These four, but Abbott in particular have shamed themselves, their party and the Parliament. I would hope the media do not hold him up as a martyr for his cause, it is not a cause to be proud of, merely that of an obnoxious bully, who has for too long acted and spoken with immunity as he treats females it would appear, as a class of person, somewhat below himself.
While I would hope after today the Leader of the Opposition and his Senior Front benchers see themselves anew, with a more appreciative respect for not only fellow female MPs but women in general, I may be as my beloved dad would say, farting against thunder.
Well done Anna Burke, you ensured you are worthy to hold the position of Deputy Speaker, I apologise for doubting you. If patience is the virtue it is made out to be, you have it in abundance.
So, dafid, today it was Abbott, Pyne, Hockey and Dutton. Let’s hope that tomorrow it will be Abetz, Morrison, Mirabella and Brandis.
Watching Tony Windsor sticking it right up Abbott was Champagne Parliament. I truly believe Windsor is the only politician left who genuinely thinks things through, and acts on his belief that it is in the best interest for all.
Now, to that goose of an Opposition leader.
I totally agree with the above critiques on the (Un)Parliamentary behaviour of Abbott’s mob, and indeed it was terrific to see Abbott get the flick today. I have really felt for Anna Bourke since she took on the Speaker position. She has had to put up with the purile antics of the idiotic, ineffective opposition. She made me very proud to be an Australian today, just as Peter Slipper did when he reined in these antics of spoilt children.
Something, somewhere, sometime must have triggered a ‘bullshit detector switch’, because FINALLY, Abbott and his kin are getting some scrutiny. It’s been a bloody long time in coming.
