In keeping with its cherished reputation as an unbiased news source, The Australian yesterday hilariously published Greg Sheridan stoically defending his best mate at Sydney University, Tony Abbott, over an obviously well-founded accusation But there has been spate of high profile apologia in recent times, as Gee reports.

I read Greg Sheridan’s article. He comes across like a gushing, fawning groupie of Tony Abbott
Greg Sheridan: All I can say is that no such incident ever occurred. There are some very disturbing elements about this whole controversy..
Marius Benson: Okay, can I just stop you there and break it down because you are say it didn’t occur. You were physically present at his alleged incident?
Greg Sheridan: No, no, I wasn’t, I wasn’t and neither was anyone else I mean no alleged witnesses come forward and so on
The cocksure Sheridan has the effrontery to claim “no such incident ever occurred” when he admits he wasn’t there and then with foot in mouth claims “neither was anyone else”.
Then he began a diatribe accusing the ABC of a “the most disgraceful sectarian, anti-catholic campaign I have ever seen and the ABC should hang it’s head in shame”. This was followed by complete meltdown.
