   Abbott must be really pissed when even a sleezebag like UK PM Cameron wants nothing to do with the turd off the Liberal Compost heap, Bernardi. Is there any Govt in the civilised world that would want to deal with Abbott and his crazed rabble?

   Bernardi may well be a non-US political entrepreneur with substantial support and funding from the US of the type of Dutch politician Geert Wilders, but as yet underdeveloped. Wilders has been under a lot of scrutiny from investigative journalists and competitors not only because of his incoherent policy positions an vulgar, deliberately offensive populism, but also because of the fact that his party has no members but himself and that its finances are completely opaque, except that there is an associated incorporated body that raises funds for the “party” among US “Christians” (as distinct from mainstream members of established churches. There are suggestions that Wilders (though gentile) , during his two year stay in Israel, was recruited as a propagandist to champion anti-islamic causes. There are also suggestions of links with the property development/settler complex in Israel that has Lieberman as its prominent overt politician as well as links with the “Christians for Israel” movement in the US.

   If one traces the path of Wilders (who should not at all be compared to Pauline Hanson etc, or traditional nationalist/populist movements in Europe and the UK, because Wilders is clearly an entrepreneur running a profitable enterprise), it started as a staffer and supporter of a genuinely conservative traditional politician (i.e. and “amateur”), together with a colleague who was slightly better educated. Both men left their party after disputes (of the type Bernardi appears to be having). Wilders became famous and his mate migrated to the US where he worked for Sarah Palin. His firm apparently does analytical work for Ryan now.

   It will be very interesting to see if Bernardi is indeed of the entrepreneurial type (as distinct from Abbot, Brandis etc) and especially if it will be possible to build a franchise in a modified Westminster system. Also, what causes would work here. Homophobia is problematic, Australia is not in the EU and the Nationals have natural franchises in nationalist/populism.

   Bernardi has been rather open about his fairly recent “training” in the US (Swan’s remarks about the Americanization of Australian politics fit him very well) and in my opinion, in a way that would not attract investors, so maybe he is just a failed politician who is good at making ennemies within his own party…
